Oh Where, Oh Where do Old Board Posts Go?

Hi All,
I was just wondering if there's a way to retrieve old posts from the boards. I don't think there is, but if it's gone off all the lists because it's really old, but you want to access it, is there a way to do that?

I think the old posts stay in the boards

Yes, but what if an old post cannot be found anywhere, in popular, new posts, latest topics or in the board itself, because it is so old? How can one unearth it?
